How Computers Revolutionised the Way We Do Business

There was a time in the world when office work had to be done with basic pen and paper. Eventually, we began to rely on typewriters to give office documents a more official feel. But now, when we go to meetings and we are asked to take out our notebooks, we take out laptops instead.

Computers have dramatically changed how we go about our daily work. Software programs now perform basic tasks that would usually take us hours to finish. Interaction with each other has also become much quicker and more efficient since the invention of the e-mail. But the biggest force that tremendously changed the face of business is the Internet. Since the launching of the World Wide Web, the world became significantly smaller. Businesses could now interact with clients from all over the globe without even putting as much as one foot out the door.

All these developments came about because in 1822, Charles Babbage conceptualized the first ever programmable computing machine - the device believed to be the forefather of modern computers. Like cell phones, computers have become such an extension of ourselves. They have become a normal part of our daily lives that to be without one feels like being thrown back to the dark ages.

So the next time we are having a bad day at work and hurling our laptops at unsuspecting passers-by seems like a great idea, we should take a deep breath and take a good look at our devices. Indeed, computers have come a long way to become the indispensable technology that makes our lives run a little bit smoother today.
